How many books do you read per year and does it matter?

Reading challenges and Goodreads goals have made reading feel competitive. But does quantity actually matter? I read 12 books last year and remembered all of them. My friend read 80 and remembers maybe 20.

Quality over quantity always. I track what I read but I don't set numerical goals. A book I think about for a year is worth ten I finished and forgot.

I read 60 last year and remember most of them! Fast reading isn't shallow reading for everyone
