The Great Gatsby — overrated or misunderstood?
I had to read it in high school and thought it was boring. I reread it at 28 and thought it was one of the saddest books I'd ever read. Did school ruin Gatsby for a generation of readers?

School ruins most books by forcing them on teenagers who aren't ready for what the book is actually about. Gatsby is about the American Dream being a lie and that hits differently when you've tried to achieve something.
Misunderstood entirely. Everyone talks about the green light. Nobody talks about how Nick is an unreliable narrator who is in love with Gatsby.
