Both. 1984 describes authoritarian states. Brave New World describes liberal democracies. We live in both simultaneously depending on where you are.
Huxley. We were never controlled through fear, we were controlled through entertainment, comfort, and the infinite scroll. The tyranny of pleasure is more insidious than the tyranny of force.
Huxley, clearly. Nobody had to burn books because nobody wanted to read them anyway.
