Wake of the green storm

On July 4, 1999, Marlin Bree sailed out of Grand Portage, Minnesota, planning to cross the Canada/US Border to spend an evening alone on a small island guarding the mouth of Thunder Bay, Ontario. But a terrible storm overtook him with estimated wind downbursts of 138 miles per hour. Fighting for his life and that of his boat, the 20-foot home-built Persistence, the author survived numerous capsizes and a near pitchpole in the storm of the century -- a classic battle of one man against the inland sea.
