by Fernand Ippersiel
This book is about 2 cousins, Joseph Papineau, the leader of 1837 rebellion in Lower Canada and Bishop Lartigue, the Catholic bishop of Montreal around the same time. Papineau was a parliamentarian who was continuously frustrated in his attempts to bring responsible government to Lower Canada. The author believes that the rebellion would have been successful if Bishop Lartigue had not been advocating from the pulpit that the people not join the rebellion.
