History in Crisis? makes historiography accessible to readers at all levels by presenting a brief overview of Western historical thought followed by a broad and comprehensive view of what historians are doing today. The book brings the reader up to date on the most current trends to influence history (e.g., postcolonialism, postmodernism, deconstruction, etc.) while also presenting all the elements of standard intellectual history and its traditional foundation (Rankean, Marxist, Annales, etc.). History is clearly not what it used to be, but rather than ponder its disintegration, Wilson explores the possibilities which remain.
