Humic compounds constitute the predominant form of organic matter in sea water and recent sediments, and they play an important role in the geochemical history of soils and sediments. However, despite the widespread occurrence of these compounds, many marine and earth scientists are unfamiliar with them and their significance. This book remedies this situation by reviewing contemporary knowledge on the origin, distribution, and reactions of marine humic compounds, and by portraying the aims and the scope of present and future research.
